The Big Yes
- Meass Svendsen with a new Scandinavian dream quartet!
Bassist Christian Meaas Svendsen has been noted as one of his generation's most innovative, personal and super active bassists, composers and improvisers. He is one of the driving forces behind the All Ears festival, the label and the music collective Nakama, and he plays in bands like Duplex, Paal Nilssen Love's Large Unit and Ayumi Tanaka Trio. Last year he also released an album of experimental shows (!) with Norwegian lyrics.
Now he has gathered a new Scandinavian dream quartet with three other musicians from his own generation. The Swedish saxophonist Anna Högberg has won the Swedish Radio's jazz award "Jazzkatten", and is known from bands like Fire! Orchestra, Doglife and not least her own "Anna Högberg's Attack", which performed during Moldejazz two years ago. The Danish trombonist Maria Bertel is a musical interpreter and plays most often in the duo with the Saxophonist Johs Lund or in the spirited female noise / improvisation band Selvhenter. When she plays solo concerts, she performs with the aid of an amphitheater that truly respects and uses effects and expanded techniques, ecstatic walls of sound that redefine the 21st century trombone. Drummer Ole Mofjell from Søgne is the last man on the team. He has a background from the jazz scene in Trondheim, and after several years in Berlin and Copenhagen he has in recent years appeared in even more musical events here in the country. He was the last one to perform together with Natalie Sandtorv on last year's critically acclaimed concert Freedom Nation in Moldejazz. Nobody in this quartet is inhibited, and you can expect a concert with brave music and high octane levels.
