Silje Nergaard (Break of Day)
Silje Nergaard performs in the Break of Day concert under Moldejazz!
One of Norway's most popular artists, Silje Nergaard, performs in the traditional concert "Break of Day in Molde" on Friday, July 20th, during this year's Moldejazz. It has been ten years since Istad AS first presented the Morgengry concert to the audience in the form of a free concert. This years jubilee coincides with Istad's 100th anniversary.
Silje Nergaard and Moldejazz have a mutual love relationship that extends over decades. Her career took off when she was sixteen years old at the jam during Moldejazz in 1983 and was really noticed by both the press and the audience. Since then she has been one of the main names of the Romsdalsmuseet (2007), and gave an exclusive guest performance with Kurt Elling during the festival in 2015.
After Pat Metheny had helped her get her first record contract, she was noticed worldwide with her debut album "Tell Me Where You're Going." Silje has so far managed to release 16 records and become one of Norway's biggest jazz enthusiasts, with big success all over the world.
Her travel and tours in all corners of the world has made way for the singer and composer Nergaard and its obvious when one listens to her latest album "For You a Thousand Times." On this album you'll find a song about a coconut seller in Italy, a mother in Africa waiting for the rain and a song about two old girlfriends in Korea reunited after a long time. "- The album is about stories that touch me. Some of the stories are my own, others are from far away, but they find something in me. "- said Silje Nergaard in connection with the launch of the record.
She brings a soul-warming, playful and vibrant band to Molde with analogue keyboards on a base of electric bass, funky drums and African percussion. We can not see a better start on a long, eventful and hot summer day during Moldejazz than a concert with Silje Nergaard and her latest project.
This year's Morgengry concert is on Friday, July 20th, at 7:00 am as usual.
Moldejazz has previously released the American band leader and composer Maria Schneider as Artist In Residence, Van Morrison, Stanley Clarke Band, R + R = NOW, Hudson, Di Derre, Matana Roberts, Cezinando, Iiro Rantala / Ulf Wakenius, Allison Miller's Boom Tic Boom, The Big Yes, Four Brothers, Knut Reiersrud Band, Donny McCaslin, Gurls, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra & The MaxX, Paal Nilssen-Love XL Unit, Trondheim Voices, Amanda Delara, Fieh, Ingebjørg Bratland and Adam Douglas.
