Yazz Ahmed's Hafla Band
Norway debut with psychedelic arabic jazz!
The British-Bahrain trumpet sensation Yazz Ahmed plays her first concert on Norwegian soil during Moldejazz in July.
Yazz has become a sought after partner and has played with greats such as Radiohead, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Joan as Police Woman, Tarek Yamani and Amel Zen. Her first album, " Finding My Way Home " (2011) marked the start of the exploration of the merger of jazz and arabic music. In 2017 she released the critically acclaimed album, " La Saboteuse " (Naim), which has truly given her an international audience. The Guardian’s reviewer drew comparisons with Jaga Jazzist and Tortoise in his review of the band.
Ahmed's music treads the boundaries between jazz, electronic music and Arabic music and has been described as hypnotic, appealing and psychedelic Arabic jazz. She herself stated that she discovered her calling as a trumpetist after collaborating in an album with Rabih Abou-Khalil and Kenny Wheeler.
