Donny McCaslin
Norway premiere of a new band with vocalist!
Saxophonist and band leader Donny McCaslin started his career with Gary Burton's band, and has since played a lot with Steps Ahead, Gil Evans, Dave Douglas, Anthony Sanchez, and last but not the least with the Artist in Residence for 2018, Maria Schneider.
McCaslin has twelve solo albums and three Grammy nominations under his name so far and his career took a big leap when David Bowie, after being excited about a concert with his quartet on the hole-in-wall place, 55Bar in New York, just used this quartet as a band on what would be Bowie's swan song: the album Blackstar. The music of McCaslin owes to rock as much as it owes to the jazz, it is groovy, catchy, explosively energetic and melodic.
McCaslin has a huge following in Molde after previous visits, most recently with Steps Ahead in 2016, and now we are looking forward to presenting an exclusive Norway premier of his new band to present brand new material.
