Allison Miller's Boom Tic Boom
Sought after drummer for the first time in Norway with her own band!
The coveted New York-based drummer and composer Allison Miller has been touring with Natalie Merchant (10,000 Maniacs), Lonnie Smith, Ani diFranco and Brandi Carlile, but it's the band Boom Tic Boom that is her pet project.
Since the launch of the debut album in 2010, the band has created furore among critics, record buyers and concert goers. The band coming to Molde is an expanded version of the original crew and consists of pianist Myra Melford, violinist Jenny Scheinman, Cornettist Kirk Knuffke /, Clarinetist Ben Goldberg and Todd Sickafoose on bass. Allison Miller was on Moldejazz in 2017 as a vital part of the critically acclaimed "all star" band Woman To Woman.
Allison Miller attracts musical influence and is an inspiration - and it clearly shows in the music she writes. With great energy, the quartet performs her music that is both challenging and accessible, enjoyable and melancholic, and not least: virtuous - but never strained. The surprises come like beads on a string, and the whole musical palette is put into use. The Wall Street Journal has described the band as: "Boom Tic Boom has a razor sharpness reminiscent of classic drum-led groups from fifty years back - the music of Art Blakey, Art Taylor and Max Roach is brought into life. But Miller's band works out of a varied and comprehensive sonic palette which is undoubtedly modern." The LA Times has called Miller "one of the most promising drummers of our time", and it's no exaggeration to say that she is also one of our most forward-looking jazz musicians.
